Justice for All: Shaping the Future

Since 1911, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association has been a leader in the nation’s quest to ensure equal access to justice for all persons in America, regardless of economic status. As our pursuit of equal justice continues, outstanding individuals emerge to set an example of extraordinary dedication, achievement and leadership. For the past 15 years, we have gathered at this annual dinner to pay tribute to lawyers and other advocates who labor tirelessly to represent people who are unable to pay for legal assistance.

2005 Kutak-Dodds Prizes

NLADA and the Robert J. Kutak Foundation are pleased to announce the 2005 Kutak-Dodds Prize recipients: William L. Grimm, senior attorney at the National Center for Youth Law, and Brownlow M. Speer, chief appellate attorney at the Committee for Public Counsel Services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Kutak-Dodds Prizes, named for the late Robert J. Kutak, a member of the first Legal Services Corporation board, and the late Kenneth R. Dodds, former partner in the Omaha, Nebraska law office of Kutak Rock, honor the accomplishments of civil legal aid attorneys, public defenders or public interest lawyers who, through the practice of law, are contributing in a significant way to the enhancement of human dignity and quality of life of those persons unable to afford legal representation. Co-sponsored by NLADA and the Robert J. Kutak Foundation, these prestigious annual awards carry a cash prize of $10,000 each.
