In response to the courageous work they have done in providing pro bono legal assistance to detainees at Guantanamo Bay, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) is pleased to honor more than fifty law firms from across the nation for their dedication to justice for all with the 2007 NLADA Beacon of Justice Award. The uncompromising stance taken by these law firms to provide representation to individuals, despite public criticism, demonstrates an unwavering belief and commitment to fairness and equality under the law for all persons accused of a crime.

NLADA will honor the law firms at the 2007 NLADA Exemplar Awards Dinner on Tuesday, June 12 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC. The reception will start at 6:00 p.m., followed by the dinner and program at 7:00 p.m. The dinner is an annual event for NLADA to pay tribute to those lawyers who labor tirelessly to improve the quality of representation for people who are unable to pay for legal assistance, and to salute outstanding individuals who set an example in that regard by their extraordinary dedication, achievement, leadership and vision.
