The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) is the nation's leading advocate for front-line attorneys and other equal justice professionals - those who make a difference in the lives of low-income clients and their families and communities. NLADA's members include organizations, programs and individuals committed to equal access to justice for the poor. They are the providers, supporters and champions of effective legal assistance to poor and low-income individuals in both civil and criminal matters. Collectively and individually, NLADA members press for adequate public and private resources for the vital work of civil legal aid and indigent defense programs.

Program members of NLADA include organizations and offices providing either civil legal aid or public defense services to low-income individuals. These programs include national, state and local civil legal aid programs, public defender programs, public interest groups, pro bono programs, assigned counsel or contract law offices, law school clinics, social service organizations, bar associations, IOLTA programs, corporate legal departments and law firms.

Individual members include civil legal aid advocates and indigent defense lawyers, bar association leaders and staff, private practice attorneys, judges, law school clinicians and faculty, pro se facilitators, paralegals, investigators, clients, law students and private citizens who support NLADA's mission.

NLADA is proud to be the oldest and largest national, nonprofit membership association devoting 100 percent of its resources to serving the broad equal justice community. NLADA supports its members' vital work by providing first-rate products and services, including legislative and public policy advocacy, training, technical assistance, publications, and professional insurance.
